Tutors in the Classroom (ELEMENTARY)
Temporary - 12 positions available

The Simcoe County
District School Board (SCDSB) is seeking applications for 12 Tutors in the
Classroom for Spring 2025. Reporting
to school Principals in the assigned schools, the
successful candidates will support
elementary-aged students in the areas of math, literacy and other foundational learning. These programs will be supervised by teaching
staff and will be through small-group or
individualized learning instructional opportunities. Successful candidate(s)
will assist with planning, facilitating and documenting student learning within
a multitude of elementary subjects.
The Student Mentor
program is intended for students currently enrolled in a post-secondary program
(college, university, apprenticeship, etc.), especially those interested in
pursuing a future career in education. Preference
will be given to post-secondary students who have worked in SCDSB in a tutoring
or mentoring position in previous school years (ie- Summer Learning, Tutors in
the Classroom, Emergency Uncertified Supply work).
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program (college, university, apprenticeship, etc.)
- interest in student instructional/engagement learning strategies that support learning in the areas of math, literacy and other foundational learning
- self-directed learner
- ability to work independently
- must be self-motivated
- cooperative and works well with others (staff and students) in a team driven environment
- willingness to learn and will carry out assigned duties to support the successful operation of the programs
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· assist
students in math, literacy and
other foundational learning under the supervision of school staff
· be
responsible for the planning, facilitating and documenting student learning
· will
be assigned multiple schools within the same geographic area
· will
travel to one assigned school per day- schedule to be provided to the tutors at
the training session on April 30th
- model oral communication skills required in an education setting (i.e., collaboration, communication, character, creativity, critical thinking, and citizenship)
- interact with various elementary school staff and complete any other duties as assigned by the school principals
Salary Range: $21.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
Date / Hours: May 1st 2025 (9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - 6.5 hours for
1 day of mandatory training)
May 5th to June 27th 2025 (6.5 hours a day
as per the school schedule assigned)

TUTORS WILL BE ASSIGNED 3 SCHOOLS WITHIN A COMMON GEOGRAPHIC AREA. THE ASSIGNED SCHOOLS WILL BE LOCATED IN THE
NORTH AND WEST SCHOOL BUS WEATHER ZONES IN SIMCOE COUNTY.
