Sturgeon Public School Division is currently seeking a part-time Wellness Coach for the Mental Health Capacity Building Project (MHCB) to provide a full range of support services for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Mental Health Capacity Building program is based out of our Redwater School and supports mental health promotion and prevention universal programming to various Sturgeon Public schools. This is a Part-Time Temporary position (0.5 FTE) working Mon-Fri with some evening and weekend hours.

Located in the Town of Redwater, the school offers a unique small-town environment and serves approximately 300 students from grades 5-12. Approximately 30 staff work together as a team to provide exemplary education for all students. Redwater School embodies a well-rounded philosophy in education through arts, academics, athletics, entrepreneurship, and citizenship. Reporting to the MHCB Program Coordinator, the Wellness Coach is responsible for:

Working with school staff, parents and community members to increase knowledge related to mental health issues

Building and maintaining strong relationships with children, youth and families as the contact for mental health and wellness

Identifying and facilitating access for individuals who need referral to specialized services

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A related post-secondary degree or diploma in social sciences, humanities or relevant courses and experience such as social work, education, recreation or child and youth care

At least 2 years working experience in addiction and mental health or health/human services related roles

Knowledge of addiction and mental health is required

Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children, youth and families

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Experience with delivering programming and comfortable with public speaking

Strong relationship building and time management skills

Skill and knowledge of facilitation, positive communication and creative thinking

Comfortable liaising with community members, school staff, community agencies and health care providers

Has an understanding of the community's economic, cultural and political environment

Knowledge of the local community and resources available

Skilled in Microsoft Office programs and comfortable using a variety of social media platforms

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides addiction and mental health promotion and prevention to children, youth and families

Working as part of a team, this position develops and delivers developmentally appropriate evidence-based programming that meets the objectives of the MHCB initiative

Delivery of programming involves large and small group work in schools and community settings and focuses on increased knowledge, building skills and fostering abilities that enable others to better their own mental health and wellness
