Job Description:

Reporting to the AVP, Executive Compensation, the Director, Executive Compensation drives the Total Rewards, HR and enterprise strategies by leading global executive compensation programs providing consultative technical expertise.

What will you do:

  • Lead the delivery of executive compensation programs (e.g., benchmarking, governance, incentive plan reviews, disclosures, communications)
  • Provide consultative technical expertise and guidance regarding compensation matters
  • Manage team members on projects in support of the executive compensation mandate (e.g., incentive design, M&A activity, operational improvements)
  • Deliver Sr. Executive/board-ready materials with a mix of quantitative and qualitative analysis, working with business partners (e.g., HR, Finance, Client groups) to acquire necessary inputs
  • Reinforce Sun Life’s compensation philosophy by recommending business solutions (programs, processes, tools) that are competitive, equitable and pay-for-performance oriented
  • Monitor environment for changes to regulations and best practices and make recommendations to evolve Sun Life’s programs
  • Liaise with internal and external audit and regulators as needed

What you need to succeed:

  • University degree (or equivalent work experience) and 10+ of Compensation experience; Executive Compensation experience is required
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills is required i.e., the ability to create and maintain complex, dynamic spreadsheets and manipulate large datasets;
  • Bias for continuous improvement and leveraging technology to improve outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and consulting skills, incorporating different perspectives, backgrounds and styles
  • Ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences clearly and concisely at all organizational levels, making connections between business goals and Total Rewards
  • Knowledge of financial services sector considered an asset

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
