Job Description:

About the role:

The Performance and Attribution Team is the operational, analytical and central hub for performance and attribution calculation, reporting and data quality. Reporting to the Director of Performance and Attribution, and partnering with business and functional leaders within Portfolio Management, Product and Institutional, the incumbent is expected to lead the day-to-day performance and attribution related activities for our portfolios. In addition, the incumbent will help with the future planning of the team, to ensure the infrastructure and processes can support the needs of our internal partners, as well as the future growth of the firm.

What will you do?

  • Manage the day-to-day performance and attribution calculation process, ensuring it is accurate and reports are delivered on time.
  • Maintain all performance related data in our systems and platforms.
  • Partner closely with the portfolio management team to build out attribution models for different asset classes.
  • Conduct thorough analysis on performance and attribution results, highlighting key drivers of performance for our portfolio management team.
  • Resolve any performance related issues.
  • Investigate and respond to inquiries from internal stakeholders on reports.
  • Participate in project planning, research and analysis of possible solutions, and provide recommendations.
  • On-going development and enhancement of processes, which includes data ingestion, calculation, validation, storage and delivery to internal and external parties.
  • Take the lead on performance related projects by ensuring all relevant parties are aligned. Able to influence others to ensure an optimal and successful outcome.
  • Build strong relationships and partnerships with both internal teams and external vendors.
  • Work with technical teams/ vendors to configure and test our internal reporting system; developing tests and automating control checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of information being used to calculate performance related analytics.
  • Establish and maintain Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) compliance.
  • Manage external and internal audits on performance related outputs.
  • Work with SLGI’s Risk Governance Team, documenting policies and procedures for performance and attribution calculations.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 7+ years of experience in investment management with exposure to investment performance, risk, analytics and operations.
  • Degree in business, math, computer science, engineering or a related field.
  • Working towards or completed CFA and/or CIPM.
  • 3+ years of experience with performance and attribution analysis.
  • Work experience in SQL, and databases
  • Knowledge of ETL, Python, visualization tools such as Power BI.
  • Experience building out data quality workflows, either internally or using 3rd party tools.
  • Familiarity with various trading products and trading systems.
  • Able to identify and troubleshoot issues independently.
  • Ability to decompose complex problems and recommend solutions.
  • Manage cross-functional teams to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Time management and organizational skills to set short-term priorities while working under strict deadlines.
  • Proven track record of partnering with and influencing business stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience in Bloomberg, Charles River, Morningstar Direct would be beneficial.

Unique requirements:

  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed during month end/ quarter end.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
