The Senior Group Underwriting Assistant role is responsible for a variety of challenging tasks to support the Group Benefits Underwriting team. This role requires individuals to work in both independently as well as in close partnership with all Underwriting team members while maintaining a positive, flexible attitude, and willingness to shift priorities quickly to support a high-volume workload and changing deadlines. In conjunction with this accountability, this role also provides support and assistance in pulling together material required by the Underwriters to complete their case assignments in a deadline driven environment and provides the assistance necessary to produce customer ready material on existing case and new business proposals. Teamwork and flexibility are strong drivers in the success of this position.
What will you do?
- Provide Underwriters with timely, accurate, and complete renewal, quote, and financial information
- Request and prepare data and case files based on defined processes, tracking and logging to support measurements and workflow management
- Active participation, including the implementation of process improvements
- Mail delivery as required in back-up situations, coordinating report requests, both standard and non-standard
- Monitoring & coordinating assignment of items, and responding to inquiries in the Group Underwriting in-basket
- Providing Administrative support for the Underwriting Management team, as required
What do you need to succeed?
- Ability to work independently and be proactive - thinking several steps ahead to understand and address needs as well as working collaboratively with others as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, using diplomacy and tact
- Works well under pressure by incorporating excellent time management skills and exceptional organizations skills to meet many priorities, often challenging deadlines, and frequent interruptions
- Advanced PC knowledge including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and willingness to learn other software packages or tools
- Service and detailed oriented
- Resourceful at problem solving and continually working to improve job processes and procedures
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of SLF operating environment, Group Benefits structure & benefits, and business unit interactions
- Knowledge of SLF Underwriting systems

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
