Reporting to Dr. Sander Hitzig, we currently have a Regular Full-Time opportunity for a Lab Manager in the Sunnybrook Research Institute St. John’s Rehab Research Program at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (St. John’s Rehab Campus).

 

Summary of Duties

The St. John’s Rehab Research Program, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time Lab Manager. The St. John’s Rehab program provides inpatient and outpatient services to persons recovering from stroke, limb loss, trauma, burns, cardiac events and musculoskeletal injuries.

This position will contribute to the ongoing research work of the St. John’s Rehab Research program by supporting a variety of complex administrative duties.

 

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To

  • Support the preparation and coordination of legal and data sharing agreements with academic partners and/or vendors;
  • Oversee Research Ethics Board (REB) applications for the program (i.e., preparing applications, supporting submissions in coordination with investigators and/or other research staff, etc.);
  • Support the management of finances (e.g., reviewing budgets, obtaining quotes, supporting cost transfers, etc.);
  • Provide training and support to research staff, which may include supporting or training them on policies related to purchasing, establishing or managing REB applications, and other operations or logistics tasks as required;
  • Oversee record keeping (e.g. inventory of collaborator information, participant databases, petty cash, etc.);
  • Assist with grant applications (e.g., budget preparation, seeking quotes, CV updating or formatting for study team where required), manuscripts, or other academic submissions (e.g., formatting, submissions, etc.));
  • Manage upkeep of the physical space (i.e., ensure computer equipment and software are working properly, keep supplies stocked, etc.);
  • Coordinate research activities across the labs of multiple scientists at St. John’s Rehab with direction from the program research director;
  • Perform other duties that may include assisting investigator(s) in various aspects of their research studies and assisting with study administration. Some opportunities for research engagement may also be offered (e.g., manuscript writing).

 

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • At minimum, Bachelor’s degree with 5 years+ related experience OR Master’s degree with 1-2+ years of related experience ;
  • At least one (1) year of research/trial coordination experience and/or one (1) year of research experience or training is preferred; 
  • Demonstrated effective communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology in the areas of rehabilitation is preferred.
  • Previous word-processing, database and spreadsheet software experience, in a Microsoft Office environment, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Electronic Patient Record Databases.
  • Knowledge of ICH/GCP regulations and guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to produce high quality work in accordance with Hospital standards.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and use of good judgment in assessing and responding to difficult situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong knowledge of clinical ethics regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hospital organizational/office practices, procedures and standards.
  • Experience working in a health care, scientific or research environment preferred.
  • Must be flexible to work Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

 

This is an on-site position with some flexibility for remote work when appropriate and as agreed upon by supervisor.
