Occupational Therapist - Acute Care - Regular Part-time 2025-12974

Summary of Duties

The Weekend Team at Sunnybrook consists of a Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, and Physiotherapist.  Occupational Therapists from various acute care units (General Internal Medicine, Oncology and Trauma) rotate into providing weekend coverage.  The Weekday Backfill Occupational Therapist provides 2 day backfill coverage on Thursday and Friday for the Occupational Therapist and the acute care unit that provided weekend coverage. 

 

  • Contribute to the assessment and interventions of acute care populations in General Medicine, Trauma, & Oncology, with expertise in non-medical management of delirium, early mobility, falls-risk assessments, ADL/IADLs, orientation and insight-building education.
  • Discharge planning and experience required
  • Collaborate with patients, families and team members to improve patient functioning and facilitate effective patient discharges.
  • Act as an occupational therapy expert resource for staff, students, and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development.
  • Seek opportunities for involvement in practice-based research and engage in knowledge translation through evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in profession-specific and inter-professional activities in support of the Sunnybrook Occupational Therapy service and the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto.
  • Practice in accordance with COTO standards for practice.

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required
  • Membership in CAOT and/or OSOT
  • Cognitive assessment experience required
  • Completed certification for Montreal Cognitive Assessment
  • Strong commitment to inter-professional collaboration, to facilitate an excellent patient care experience
  • Commitment to clinical excellence and use of Best Practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care concept and principles
  • Ability to demonstrate reflective practice
