Return to Work Coordinator - Occupational Health and Safety - Regular Full-Time 2025-12102

Summary of Duties:

  • Facilitates the return to work and rehabilitation process for all employees;
  • Communicates with employees, management, union representatives, WSIB and LTD representatives to facilitate the return to work process in compliance with applicable legislative requirements, Hospital policy and procedures and relevant Collective Agreements;
  • Collaborates as part of a multidisciplinary team in order to provide a safe return to work program for employees. Conducts regular progress meetings for all parties including employees, unions and managers;
  • Collaborates with Human Resources, Patient Care Managers, other OHS staff and legal counsel in the preparation for grievance and arbitration hearings. Attends and participates in hearings as required;
  • Works in collaboration with WSIB adjudicators as required;
  • Works with Human Resources to identify placements for employees on the Permanent Accommodation List, comparing Functional Abilities Evaluations to physical demands of identified jobs;
  • Performs matches for physical demands on jobs to compare with the employee’s restrictions;
  • Maintains statistical data and provide routine reports as directed;
  • Ensures timely correspondence and information is provided to all parties;
  • Strong knowledge of MSK Injuries required
  • Receives, reviews and interprets medical documentation and based on this review approves or denies sick leave benefits
  • Manage and lead the accommodation process through planning, implementing and coordinating return to work programs with Employee, Manager, HR, Medical Team, Specialists (i.e. Ergonomists), WSIB RTWS, and Unions (if applicable);
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and revise temporary and/permanent accommodation programs and communicates regularly with the employee, manager and union to ensure the plan is proceeding as planned and are not open-ended (i.e. end-date), with consideration to Legislation, Policy, and Collective Agreements
  • Liase with 3rd party providers e.g. WSIB, LTD
  • Participate in the grievance process with may include case review, development of a case summary, preparation with legal counsel, and participation in mediation or arbitration proceedings
  • Monitors target dates for achievement of outcomes and/or requesting medical updates
  • Critically analyzes case files for other health related factors which may influence recovery time, early and safe return to work, eligibility, and seeks further medical documentation, if required

 

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline such as Occupational Health and Safety, Nursing, or health related field.
  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or Disability Management preferred
  • Experience in Disability Management required
  • Experience with WSIB claims management
  • Experience in dealing with Insurance Company adjudicators/investigators
  • Experience with working with arbitrations required
  • Sound knowledge of the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, WSIB, Human Rights and LTD processes and procedures and all applicable occupational health & safety legislation and standards
  • Minimum 3-5 years occupational health experience related to WSIB, WSIB framework, disability management, and accommodation
  • Occupational Health experience in a hospital environment preferred
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office
  • Proficient in the use of Parklane System
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven creative problem solving ability
  • Excellent understanding of disability management and early and safety RTW principles
  • Teamwork and co-operation, Flexibility, Analytical Thinking, Professionalism-commitment, reliability and integrity
  • Good attendance and performance record
