Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging department, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered care environment. The Charge Technologist will plan, organize, co-ordinate and assure high quality of performance and that industry and hospital standards are met. They will lead the Nuclear Medicine team and ensure quality medical imaging exams and procedures are completed efficiently and effectively. They will ensure Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulatory requirements are met and maintained across the three SHN sites. They will also oversee part of the BMD portfolio and assist in hospital wide radiation safety training and education.

The duties and responsibilities are:

  • Fosters a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff and others, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and legislation, and the code of conduct of the hospital. Ensures that protective equipment is provided and that hazards are identified and responded to.
  • Provide operational leadership, including planning, organizing, and coordinating NM services and some BMD.
  • Assist and provide leadership for technical staff in performing their duties to assure high quality of performance and standards.
  • Complete imaging exams and full-line technologist duties.
  • Act as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), meeting CNSC regulations, licencing, and accreditation requirements.
  • Manages human resources functions, including scheduling of staff, orientation and training, coaching and mentoring, and assignment of duties.
  • Assists in the development, revision and review of the policies and procedures for NM related functions following published best practice guidelines.
  • Coordinates and maintains inventory control of stock and non-stock purchases to maintain supplies; ensures efficient use of supplies.
  • Perform various admin duties to ensure optimized departmental flow, including and not limited to: payroll, scheduling, workload assessment, accreditation, and financial assessment.
  • Participate and contribute knowledge and expertise to various redevelopment, future growth, services expansion, and other projects across sites.
  • Teach and coach staff, new team members, and students. Provide guidance to ensure team practice and competency is up to date.
  • Train and educate hospital wide staff on Radiation Safety and awareness.
  • Participate in SHN leadership development program for lead technologists.

Requirement:

  • Current MRT in Nuclear Medicine Canadian certification.
  • Current registration with the CMRITO.
  • Minimum 5 years recent experience as a Medical Technologist preferred.
  • Certificates in CT with SPECT/CT experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the theory and practices of procedures, equipment and special techniques related to NM and Bone Mineral Densitometry
  • Radiation Safety Officer certification, or willing to complete within first 6 months.
  • Experience with CNSC regulations and requirements
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training and experience with radioactive waste.
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and technical abilities
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Experience developing schedules, assessing staffing needs and ensuring accuracy of work
  • Proficiency with coordinating workflow and assisting with departmental budget management
  • Familiarity with developing and revising new policies and procedures
  • Ability to prioritize and organize daily work
  • High degree of professionalism and initiative, with the ability to function independently in a position with limited immediate supervision.
  • Evidence of excellent sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
