Job Description:

Position Overview:

Working under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Student will be responsible for supporting pharmacy services dedicated to the Cancer Clinic at SHN. The successful candidate will work up new patients including BPMH to identify drug related problems, create patient treatment calendars, conduct capecitabine patient call backs, and have opportunities to learn workflows in the specialty oncology hospital retail pharmacy. The student will gain experiences working with cancer patients and their healthcare team including physicians, nurses, drug access navigator, and other pharmacy team members. Duties will include other project work as assigned. Mainly serving the General site, the position may include 1 day per week at the Centenary site. The successful candidate will be a team player who works collaboratively with others, communicates well, is reliable and respectful, and demonstrates SHNs core values of compassion, innovation, courage and inclusion.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a Pharm. D Program

  • Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Pharmacy Student

  • Knowledge of hospital pharmacy services

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Patient oriented and patient focused

  • Ability to work well within an inter-professional team and to foster effective working relationships

  • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.

  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards

  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community

  • Excellent work performance and attendance record

  • Demonstrates ability to exercise sound judgment, problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; detail oriented

Assets:

  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience

  • Previous experience performing BPMH

  • Previous experience working in a cancer clinic pharmacy setting

  • Experience using Epic health information system

  • Ability to speak another language
