Job Description:

Position Overview:
Reporting the Manager of Registration and Admitting, the Senior Bed Allocation Clerk will be responsible for supporting day-to-day activities to maintain patient flow in collaboration with the Resource Nurses, Unit Coordinators, patient care teams and Managers, support the movement of admitted patients from the Emergency Department and the flow of patients between programs. The incumbent will facilitate repatriation of patients with Physicians and Mangers and to identify any process barriers to the manager of the appropriate inpatient unit. The Senior Bed Allocation Clerk will continuously utilize critical thinking to identify barriers to the throughput of patients across the transition points for all programs.

Requirements:
•Minimum 1 year bed allocation experience or 2 years registration/admitting experience and/or Graduate of a Medical Office Administration Diploma

•Medical Terminology Course required
•Accurate keyboarding skills with minimum typing speed of 40 wpm
•Previous acute care hospital admitting experience
•Understanding and awareness of SHN's policies, flow initiatives and wait time targets
•Previously demonstrated coordinating and prioritizing skills in a fast-paced clerical environment
•Recent experience working with registration software
•Demonstrated excellent time management and organizational skills in prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines
•Proven ability to work in a self-directed manner, exercising sound judgement and follow through with minimal supervision
•Demonstrated ability to effectively maintain calm professional interactions with physicians and hospital staff during demanding situations
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with well developed customer service focus (predominantly telephone environment)
•Ability to act as Team Leader and represent department
•Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to SHN’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service in this area
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
•Experience in working with a diverse patient base
•Ability to seek help and accept guidance when a gap in competency is identified
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN's Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
• Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
• Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
• Excellent work performance and attendance record
