Hours of work: seven (7) hours per day

Criteria For Interview
3-year College Diploma in American Sign Language English Interpreter Program or equivalent
Minimum one (1) year of related experience
Fluent in ASL, English and manually-coded English
General knowledge of Secondary School curricula
Must be a practicing Roman Catholic verified through a Pastoral reference
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The primary function of this job is to act as the interpreter of communication between the deaf and hard of hearing students and the mainstream teachers and students; to provide direct and full access to the regular classroom (especially subject specialization) areas and to have access to all school services and to participate in extra-curricular activities.
Acts as interpreter for deaf and hard of hearing students, regular student(s)/teacher(s) in a normal classroom setting
Carries the cultural interpretation of ideas and messages across the boundaries of the deaf and hard of hearing community and that of the spoken language community
Provides interpreting services for hearing impaired student(s)/regular student(s)/teacher(s) at various school events, assemblies, school masses, school plays, sports teams, student council, retreats, meetings, appointments, interviews, etc.
Carries out preparation for participation in classroom, special meetings, events, etc. such as meeting with teacher(s) to know what the goal is/discuss lesson plans, reading/reviewing course materials, attending planning/rehearsal sessions
Carries out cross-cultural mediation and bimodal communication
Instructs the school staff and students about the role of the interpreter by giving workshops, handouts and conducting role plays
Perform other duties as assigned
This is a CUPE Local 1328 union position with a bi-weekly pay of $2,566.30 to $3,092.44 ($55,175.45 - $66,487.46), effective September 1, 2024.
