Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Physical Resources, and serving as a senior leader within the Physical Resources unit, the Director, Campus Planning, Design, and Development, is responsible to deliver on the Physical Resources stewardship mandate through the delivery of short- to longer-term planning, design, and development of the physical infrastructure on the University campus, including site infrastructure and facilities. The breadth and scope of this position is extensive.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the Campus Planning, Design, and Development unit, an interdisciplinary team of up to 30 employees, consisting primarily of licensed professionals, including architects, engineers, and accountants, architectural and engineering technologists and technicians and other support staff and up to 30 external consultants and contractors
  • Provide operational oversight and management of a $3-million-plus annual operating expense budget and $70-million-plus annual capital expense budget
  • Establish and advances a strategic, holistic approach to integrating planning for site and campus development and operations
  • Development of administrative systems, including policy, procedures, and processes, as appropriate and necessary, as well as for providing senior University leadership with strategic planning support and guidance
  • Provide strategic leadership to advance the University’s sustainability and Physical Resources’ stewardship strategies that are materially consistent with the University Campus Master Plan and are compliant with relevant Board of Governors

Requirements

  • 10-15 years’ experience working at a senior management level in a heavily unionized facilities department within a major public institutional setting, preferably at a post secondary educational institution
  • P.ENG or OAA designation is mandatory
  • Undergraduate Degree in Architecture or Engineering combined wtih relevant professional experience is required. An MBA would be considered an asset for this role.
  • Experience working with a University’s senior level administrators and provincial and/ or municipal authorities
  • Proven leadership ability and highly developed problem solving and conflict resolution on a wide variety of issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to build relationships with key people on campus
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and use sound judgement in making significant decisions
