General Purpose
The Manager, Quality Assurance and Risk manages the OVC HSC information system. HSC captures health information at the micro and macro level and is responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of a risk management program in accordance with the University of Guelph Risk Management and Occupational/Environmental Health and Safety. The program will encompass areas crucial to operational efficiency, veterinary regulations, legal obligations, client service and clinician, student and staff health and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop key standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure that they are effectively communicated in a secure online environment.
- Manage the integrity, security and confidentiality of the health information, client and patient records; ensuring that the system and information complies with College of Veterinarians of Ontario requirements, legal requirements, and accreditation requirements while ensuring that the system meets the administrative, academic and research needs of the OVC HSC.
- Direct data collection, use, access and disclosure of information; retention and destruction of health information regardless of format.
- Conduct qualitative analysis on the documentation within the medical record.
- Develop, implement and communicate compliance-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), ensuring standardized practices are adhered to throughout the organization.
- Working with the Associate Dean Clinical Program, or designate, the Manager ensures clinical quality assurance is maintained, analyzed and supported within the OVC HSC through Peer Reviews and through management and resolution of complex medical situations.
- Ensure that client concerns are addressed in a timely manner; with service gaps and areas of risk identified and addressed including actions to minimize repeat occurrences of these concerns.
- Manage a variety of general administrative functions and related projects within the OVC HSC.
- Take a strategic approach to resource utilization (people and equipment) in a complex, 24/7 patient services operation, ensuring a smooth, safe, efficient Health Sciences Centre, teaching and research environment while meeting fiscal targets.
- Provide input on budget formulation, major expenditures, cost recoveries and revenue generation
- Lead and support a diverse staff and responsible for staff recruitment, orientation, training, skill development in multi-service areas, setting performance standards and facilitating personalized performance management processes.
Requirements
- Undergradtuate degree or professional healthcare/veterinary medicine designation (registered veterinary technician, registered nurse, doctor of veterinary medicine).
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience.
- Preference given to applicants who hold a Canadian Health Information Management Association designation or process improvement and quality assurance certifications, such as Lean Six Sigma.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication (written, verbal and presentation skills), and customer service.
- Self motivated and takes initiative
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to relate well to stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of health information managements systems and other related clinical systems.
The Manager will be required to work flexible hours and may be required to work on evenings and/or weekends on occasion.
