The Finance and Salary Budget Analyst is primarily accountable for accurate and timely processing, review and reporting relating University salary budget and commitments data. The role has a holistic perspective for Finance data relating to salaries and therefore works closely in coordination with Human Resources (HR) on salary and position related data. This position also assists in the preparation of University financial reporting, supports student fee calculations and budget management, as well as operating fund charge-out calculations.
Processing, review and reporting of University salary budget data
- Maintain the HR System Budget and Commitments Module (HR B&C Module) for salary budget data including:
- Annual setup and roll forward of position budget for the fiscal year
- Review HR System data to calculate and process salary budget updates to reflect annual increases, FTE changes, hires and terminations etc
- Approve closed positions and process related salary budget updates
- Review net new positions in HR Recruiting system for appropriate approvals, funding sources and process salary budget setup
- Identify, investigate and resolve data anomalies and discrepancies
- Support HR B&C Module upgrade testing
- Process budget transfers in Financial Reporting System where appropriate for funding of salary budget changes, new positions and position closures; and support reconciliation between HR B&C Module and Financial Reporting System
- Maintain operating complement position data including annual roll forward, new positions, position changes and closed positions
- Support budget reporting available to campus stakeholders including campus-wide reporting, unique reporting requests, and related data and reporting support requests. This includes supporting institutional information and reporting requests from the Provost Office
- Work closely with HR to support consistent and reliable data, and efficient processing across HR and Finance systems to meet institutional budget data and reporting needs
Processing, review and reporting of University salary commitments data
- Maintain the HR B&C Module for salary commitments data including:
- Annual setup for and create annual initial payroll commitments
- Process payroll commitment adjustments to reflect payroll changes impacting commitments
- Review payroll commitment liquidations
- Review month-end commitment balances in the HR System commitments module and process integration of data to commitment reporting and the Financial Reporting System
- Close commitments from the prior period in the Financial Reporting System
- Support salary commitment reporting available to campus stakeholders including campus-wide reporting, unique reporting requests, and related data and reporting support requests. This includes supporting institutional information and reporting requests from the Provost Office
- Work closely with HR to support consistent and reliable data, and efficient processing across HR and Finance systems to meet institutional commitment data and reporting needs
Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Prepare and analyze all data supporting the student service fee calculation
- Administer budget transfers relating to student service fees
- Prepare data supporting operating fund charge-outs
- Support various year end audit and reporting including salary and benefits costs, and schedule of Ancillary Income and Expenses
- Calculate the annual Faculty Professional Expense Reimbursement rate
- Participate in department projects as required
- Provide backup to other Finance functions as required
- Participate as a functional expert representative in system upgrade and testing project teams
- Investigate technological solutions and recommend and assist in implementing process improvements
- Undergraduate Degree in Accounting or Business or focus on accounting and business courses
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- 1 to 3 years of experience in an accounting/finance related environment preparing and managing salary budget information
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to balance competing priorities
- Experience with an enterprise-wide accounting system
- Experience in a not-for-profit environment preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills; comfort working with senior leaders and engaging technical peers
- Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Works independently with a strong work ethic
- Advanced Excel data analysis skills
