With excellent project management and grant development skills, this position will play a pivotal role in planning, implementing, and evaluating the VCHRI internal award and funding programs. The Research Award Lead position collaborates with research teams across VCH clinical areas to support grant development and liaise with research funding partners.

As a Research Awards Lead, VCHRI with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Reporting to the Manager, Research Development and Strategic Partnerships at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI), the Research Awards Lead is responsible for the planning, guidance, communication, and overall management of all VCHRI research funding programs.
  • This role is a key liaison internally and externally with researchers, partners, and administrators across the health research enterprise.
  • The Research Awards Lead is accountable for developing, implementing, and evaluating the VCHRI internal grants and awards program.
  • This role will also provide grant development support for VCH clinicians and staff applying to external funding opportunities when support at academic units are not available.
  • This would involve liaising with researchers, clinical units, granting agencies and other key partners; and providing feedback on grant applications.
  • This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A Master’s degree in a health or health research-related discipline.
  • Experience in a health research or research administration setting.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in the administration of academic, grant-funded health-research programs, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Successful history of managing cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated history of successful interactions with health researchers and health research administrators, including peer/merit review committees.
  • Familiarity with clinical, administrative and/or research environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the flexibility to work equally well in a team setting and independently.
  • Uses strong analytical, organizational, financial and research abilities to support decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key partners.
  • Clear, compelling and concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management and research skills including the ability to initiate, plan and complete research projects with individual clinicians and teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop research grants and complete ethic approvals.
  • Strong critical analysis skills and a natural tendency to recommend solutions.
  • Flexible and possess the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and environments, embrace new ideas, and is enterprising, resourceful and adaptable.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information and difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong attention to details and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong computer literacy, including full competency in Microsoft Office program (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
