Job Summary

Come work as a Regional Simulation Education Lead with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Reporting to the Regional Clinical Education Manager, Simulation and in alignment with the Regional Clinical Education department’s vision and philosophy of Leading Learning and Partnering for Potential, the Regional Simulation Education Lead develops an organizational Clinical Education Strategy that promotes and facilitates ongoing development/growth needs of educational leaders and clinical staff, to support a simulation strategy across VCH. The Regional Simulation Education Lead is an innovator, knowledge translator, facilitator and change agent accountable for developing and delivering simulation clinical education across multidisciplinary clinical programs within the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.

As a Regional Simulation Education Lead with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Contribute to the overall leadership in clinical simulation education in accordance with the organization’s mission, vision, values and strategic direction as well as the department’s vision and philosophy and professional practice standards by fostering a climate of continued learning and growth and encouraging and supporting a variety of educational programs and strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with program leaders, multidisciplinary educators and staff across VCH to assess simulation education needs and prioritize in order to lead the development of simulation-based curriculum design. Provide educational consultation, program development, facilitation planning, implementing and evaluating simulation methodology in educational programs.
  • Develop and implements policies, procedures, and standards to ensure effective management of the simulation education curriculum and program.
  • Engage in a variety of simulation-based activities such as developing and modifying simulation scenarios, team debriefing, and teaching simulation courses. Operate, troubleshoot, and support the proper usage of simulation equipment and supplies.
  • Develop and coordinate outreach simulation activities in partnership with internal VCH rural and remote communities of care, and external provincial partners and agencies.
  • Take a lead role in the coordination and delivery of simulation programming using innovative tools, resources and/or methods (i.e. telehealth, online, applications, etc.) as appropriate to the audience and learning intentions.
  • Ensure program deliverables are completed on time and on budget as well as identifies long term opportunities and partnerships to sustain simulation as an effective tool in clinician education and patient safety.
  • Lead, mentor, and support multidisciplinary clinical educators across the organization through coaching, guiding, and modelling key behaviors, encouraging dialogue, and providing guidance to simulation facilitation. Provide education, consultation and support to Regional Clinical Educators, frontline educators and simulation champions to build capacity in simulation education methodology across VCH.
  • Engage and support simulation-based research projects. Incorporate research, evidence-based practices, and emergent advances in education and simulation, including methodologies and technological applications.
  • Foster, lead and role model a healthy and safe workplace.
  • Participate in communication/committee work. Chair cross-organizational and provincial meetings as required.
  • Collaborate and partner within the Regional Clinical Education team and colleagues both internally and externally to the organization.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately report unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Nursing or other clinical profession plus additional studies in education, including simulation education with a minimum of five (5) years clinical experience, including two (2) years of simulation education experience.
  • Competent in simulation education methodology.
  • Master’s degree in healthcare education and/or Society for Simulation in Healthcare Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) preferred.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License is required as local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement will be paid in accordance with excluded contract agreement.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Applies comprehensive knowledge and skill in simulation education, educational theory, research, technology and related best practices as well as an understanding of health care disciplines and networking abilities to support enhanced educational practices.
  • Uses superior group facilitation, team building, negotiating, conflict resolution skills and an interactive teaching style to engage learners with a variety of different learning styles and facilitate critical thinking and problem resolution.
  • Advanced computer literacy including the flexibility to work with various work related software programs including Microsoft Office (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, etc), Outlook, Internet, etc. Familiarity and comfort using social media for educational purposes.
  • Strong communication, relational, coaching, organizational and program evaluation skills are required. Knowledge of learning and evaluation models.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple programs and work under pressure of deadlines. Proven ability to lead staff to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Significant knowledge and proven experience with program development, evaluation and program management.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with high level of motivation. Adaptable and flexible to meet changing priorities and resource constraints.
