As a Community Dietitian with VCH, you will:
- Work in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team and take a population health approach to plan, organize, coordinate and evaluate nutrition programs directed towards health promotion and disease prevention.
Education & Experience
- Current full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC).
- Graduate of Dietitians of Canada accredited Dietetic Internship Program.
- Two years’ recent related clinical experience in pediatric and community nutrition or equivalent education, training and experience as approved by the College of Dietitians of BC.
- Local area travel requires use of personal vehicle. Valid BC Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical issues relevant to pediatric and community health.
- Working knowledge of nutrition education principles, methods and delivery techniques for clients/parents of various cultural, educational and financial backgrounds.
- Considerable knowledge of community resources and available services.
- Working knowledge of client-centred care.
- Working knowledge of facilitation and conflict resolution techniques and demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct clients, parents, families, caregivers and other health care professionals regarding nutrition issues and related topics.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and maintain a variety of charts, records and reports related to work and to perform all duties with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and in collaborating for community interaction.
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan, organize and prioritize workload and adapt to a changing caseload in a complex environment.
- Computer literacy specifically with Windows applications and social media tools.
Position is with the North Shore Diabetes Education team. Clinical experience required with clients who range in age from Pediatric to Geriatric in the prevention and/or management of Prediabetes, Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes. Education and care is offered as in-person and/or virtual group and individual 1:1 appointments. Knowledge/experience supporting clients on insulin pump therapy and having current Canadian Diabetes Educator certification are assets.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
