The Team
The Public Safety and Policing Modernization Team is part of the Corporate Strategic Initiatives Branch, which leads key public safety projects for the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. Our team is dedicated to creating safer communities by working on meaningful initiatives like modernizing the Police Act with values of anti-racism, accountability, and community at the forefront. With team members located in Victoria and the Lower Mainland, we collaborate with Indigenous partners, local governments, and other ministries to make public safety policies more inclusive, equitable, and effective. The Role
As a Policy Analyst, you will play a key role in leading consultation shaping public safety policies and legislation that promote equity, accountability, and community values in British Columbia. Your work will involve conducting research, analyzing data, managing projects, and collaborating with diverse partners, including Indigenous partners and local governments. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the province's largest co-development initiatives, helping to reform the Police Act and improve public safety outcomes for all communities in BC.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in law, political science, business administration, public administration, social sciences or related discipline and minimum 2 years of *related experience
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Related experience must include 3 of the following:
- Experience consulting with partners on policy and legislation.
- Experience conducting complex research and analysis and/or policy development.
- Experience managing, evaluating, and administering projects and/or project components.
- Experience working effectively with multiple projects and assignments.
- Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content (examples: regulatory and legislative summaries, briefing notes, What We Heard Report, Cabinet submissions, Treasury Board Submissions, Requests for Legislation, policy documents, and/or public discussion papers).
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- At least one year experience in legislation development. Legislation development means preparing cabinet submissions and/or requests for legislation, drafting instructions for amendments to or new legislation and/or regulations, and Order in Council packages.
- Experience with the criminal justice system.
- Experience with consultation and cooperation with Indigenous partners.
- Experience consulting with individuals who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC).
- Experience consulting with individuals who self-identify as LGBTQ2S+ and/or people with disabilities.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until March 31, 2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
