Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a People Health Accommodation Advisor to join the Employee Health Team. Apply today to join our team!

Reporting to the Manager, Accommodation Team, provides advice, support and education related to sustainable accommodations to employees who are ill or injured. Utilizing best practice guidelines, research studies, published consensus opinions and/or case law findings, the People Health Accommodation Advisor identifies sustainable accommodation opportunities that integrate employees back into the workplace in meaningful and productive employment. Collaborates with People Health and Workplace Health teams to foster safe and effective return to work plans. Makes recommendations to the Employer on the accommodation issues as required.

As a People Health Accommodation Advisor with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Provide advice, support and education related to employees with disabilities and accommodation and return-to-work plans and priorities.
  • Identify sustainable accommodation opportunities to integrate employees back into the workplace in meaningful and productive employment and work collaboratively with the employee, HR Advisor, WorkAbility Team and managers to foster a culture of acceptance for disabled employees to be effective in the workplace.
  • Establish accommodation plans to address the employee’s limitations and restrictions, and meet the managers’ needs with respect to the work place demands. Arrange for orientation of the employee, establish expectations, and ensure employee’s needs are captured to ensure a smooth transition and re-entry into the workforce. Follow up after each accommodation to determine success and assess if further action to be taken.
  • Conduct legal analysis as part of recommendations as to whether the accommodation should proceed or not due to undue hardship.
  • Share appropriate medical information to facilitate assessment with the manager as to whether the accommodation is appropriate to the unit and sustainable.
  • Review completed Disability Attendance Forms and assess the appropriate course of action.
  • Develop strategies that promote the acceptance of the duty to accommodate program and inclusion of disabled employees in to the workplace.
  • Collaborate with WorkAbility Team and Workplace Health to ensure a safe and effective return to work.
  • Educate clients on employee/labour relations issues, Human Rights legislation and obligations, which reflect industry standards, best practices and VCH’s core competencies.
  • Investigate and facilitate the resolution of issues/grievances/disputes related to duty to accommodate, grievances, investigations, third party preparations and advocacy.
  • Utilize effective targeted communication strategies for unions, employees and other stakeholders to provide information and gain acceptance.
  • Provide vocational counseling to staff who have been off work for a period of time to better enable the re-integration into the workforce.
  • Interpret and apply the collective agreements, People policies, legislative requirements and other legal documents.
  • Ensure consistent application of processes and procedures related to duty to accommodate, human rights complaints, etc.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • University degree in a related field, Human Resources certificate and/or Disability Management certificate (NIDMAR).
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of recent related experience in a unionized health care environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
