Department mission
The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation, and integration of all citizens through the provision of excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities, and services.
Responsibilities and goals associated with the position
Reporting to the Manager - Visitor experience and visual arts collections, the Artistic Technician will oversee the technical preparations necessary to produce the conceptual effect desired by an artist at a given exhibition site, such as an art gallery, cultural centre, performance venue, park, etc.
The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows:
- Discuss the desired artistic concept with the stakeholders involved (technical manager, artist or his/her representative, etc.)
- Study the plans and specifications, keeping the concept in mind, and raise any issues or challenges
- Working in cooperation with the other team members, draw sketches and propose potential solutions
- Plan the work schedule and necessary resources
- Ensure the security of the artistic material (works, tools, etc.)
- Reproduce the desired artistic effects (e.g., lighting, sound, how the works are displayed, etc.) based on the established plan and existing standards
- Find technical solutions for problems that occur before or during the activity
- Ensure the storage or saving of exhibition items or equipment
- Perform all other related tasks.
Working hours
An average of 7 to 14 hours a week. Variable according to needs.
