Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Medical Director and the Diagnostic Imaging Manager, assists in the day-to-day planning, organization, innovating, staffing, directing and controlling of the Diagnostic Imaging Department in an efficient and effective manner.

Functions as an independent self-directed professional in the delivery of direct patient care relating to all radiological procedures. Works within the framework of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists’ Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and the Misericordia Health Centre’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, policies, procedures and structures.

Establishes and is committed to interdisciplinary consultative and collaborative relationships with other members of the Misericordia Health Centre to ensure safe client-focussed care. Provides leadership to other Medical Radiation Technologists in the carrying out of all functions.

Is responsible for overseeing the Radiology and CT Technologists on the competent performance of procedures and, as needed, training in the department, including, the Computed Radiography (CR) Units, Fluoroscopy and other equipment related to the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS).

Experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience as a Medical Radiation Technologist.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills and supervisory and organizational ability.
  • Evidence of completion of ongoing continuing educational courses pertaining to current trends in Medical Radiation Technology.
  • Good working knowledge about electronic imaging, especially in regards to Computed Radiography (CR), Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) equipment.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Currently registered as a Medical Radiological Technologist with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists.
  • Certificate in Health Care Supervisory skills or equivalent preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Imaging Technology Program, eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (C.A.M.R.T.) and registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (C.A.M.R.T.) within three months of hire.

Must be able to work cooperatively, courteously and tactfully with all customers/clients of the Program as well as all Centre and program personnel. Establishes and is committed to interdisciplinary consultative and collaborative relationships with other members of the Health Care Team. Abides by the Code of Ethics and Standards of the C.A.M.R.T. and follows the Canada Safety Code - 20A.
  • Authority to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities including the supervision of staff members, within established policies and procedures.
  • Has a high-degree of technical capability, a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology and the ability to improvise on procedures when required are demonstrate din the performance of assigned duties.
  • Responsibilities are handled skilfully and effectively, particularly in the absence of the Diagnostic Imaging Manager.
  • Professional standards are maintained through the Department.
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal relationships are maintained with clients, physicians and health centre staff members in the performance of duties.
  • Must have ability to adapt readily and respond with initiative to a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated planning and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical analysis skills.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting.
  • Must demonstrate the use of safe and effective body mechanics while working with clients.
  • Must be able to assist in the transfer of large and/or heavy clients who may have limited or no weight bearing capabilities.
  • Must be able to lift and position clients, some of whom are in a state of unconsciousness.
  • May be exposed to radiation (within acceptable limits).
  • May be exposed to extreme client injuries.
  • May be required to occasionally work extended hours.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
