Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
The Shared Health Mental Health and Addictions provide a range of mental health and addiction services across the healthcare continuum that support and promote recovery. Through collaboration and partnership across various health services, social services and community sectors, Shared Health Mental Health and Addiction strives to promote mental health and well-being for all, to reduce inequities, to improve access and coordination to minimize the impact of mental health and addiction issues for individuals and families and to work towards the sustainability of mentally healthy individuals and communities.
Child and Youth (CY) Treatment Services within Mental Health and Addictions, Shared Health has developed two new services and teams to provide an immediate response for children and youth experiencing a mental health crisis, along with supporting their families, care providers, and professional supports. One service will be a virtual province-wide service, while the other will be Winnipeg-based, both virtual and in person in community. These services will provide timely consultation to service providers who deliver treatment resources to the child and youth population suffering with mental and emotional health challenges; and direct time-limited intervention to children and youth to support community stabilization. The crisis service teams will work with the youth and community to fill service gaps, reduce barriers, and create pathways to existing services.
With a trauma informed and equity informed perspectives these services connect youth to existing resource supports “close to home”. Brief treatment may be provided in collaboration with community partnerships utilizing anti-racist, culturally informed and a person centric approach. Thus, allowing for increased safety for a diverse inclusive population of youth. Low barrier service delivery with smooth service transition is emphasized. We know in Manitoba a high proportion of children and youth that require or use mental health and addictions services may be from Indigenous communities and backgrounds. This role requires a leader who can foster a team environment that is well positioned to support indigenous clients and families that may require these services. This includes identifying and developing improved pathways to service for Indigenous clients.
