Position Overview

Under the leadership, direction and supervision of the Manager Health Services, the Senior Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing: ongoing programming support; developing new program initiatives; participating in the delivery of dental education and screening as well as clinical dental services.

Experience
  • Minimum five years’ experience as a Senior Dental Hygienist required.
  • Two years related experience in a pediatric specialty office preferred.
  • Previous dental office management skills and dental reception experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with medically complex children is preferred.
  • Knowledge of dental health prevention and promotion.
  • Experience presenting oral health education to groups preferred.
  • Experience in working with the public in a professional manner.
  • Experience in dental public health is an asset.
  • Experience in program development and implementation is an asset.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the techniques of prophylactic procedures, disease transmission, sterilization procedures and other dental hygiene duties.
  • Experience working with children is considered an asset.
  • Ability to maintain concise records and perform statistical calculations.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Diploma from an accredited University Dental Hygiene Program required.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Dental Hygiene, the Social Sciences or Education is a definite asset.

SPECIAL TRAINING:

  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Computer knowledge and experience essential (e.g. Cleardent, Microsoft Office, Outlook).
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Active registration and licensure with the College of Dental Hygienists of Manitoba is required.
  • Active membership with the Manitoba/Canadian Dental Hygienists Association is an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with the public in a very busy environment is preferred.
  • Experience working with medically, physically and/or economically compromised patients is an asset.
  • Must be able to perform all duties as assigned with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and cope with competing demands.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a high functioning team in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to adjust priorities as situations evolves.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Compliance with PHIA, FIPPA and WRHA policies.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to physically perform the functions associated with providing dental hygiene services in a clinical setting including but not limited to: standing, sitting, bending over, lifting and twisting.
  • Must be able to travel within the city to provide presentations/education sessions as required which may include transporting a laptop and projector as well as gathering and bringing program resources.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
