The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

The Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre embraces the goal of Jordan’s Principle to ensure that all children and youth have access to the health services they need in a timely manner. This Mental Health Clinician position will focus on providing virtual and in person mental health service to children, adolescents and their families in First Nations communities to support this initiative. This position is based in Winnipeg with some travel required to First Nations communities throughout Manitoba.

The Mental Health Clinician will build collegial relationships with service providers in the communities that will support capacity building in the area of child and adolescent mental health with a focus on completing assessments, developing/implementing treatment plans, providing case management support and along with follow-up support for those individuals returning to their community.

The Mental Health Clinician will work in collaboration with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, nursing station staff, community service providers, clients and their families.

Experience
  • Experience working with a variety of First Nations communities; their culture and healing practices.
  • 3-5 years’ experience preferred working with children, youth and families.
  • Experience and training in treatment models related to developmental trauma.
  • Experience in case management.
  • Experience and or training in any of the following: DBT, CBT, family treatment models are assets.
  • Experience developing and delivering mental health education is considered an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Qualified as a Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker (MSW) or Family Therapist (MMFT).
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Staff not licensed/registered with a legislated professional body must be registered/certified with an appropriate Association.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Training and demonstrated skill in several of the following areas: clinical assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, play therapy and systems intervention.
  • Core knowledge of child and adolescent development and mental health issues in childhood and adolescence. An appreciation and understanding of the impact that colonization has had on First Nations communities in Manitoba.
  • Skilled in building collaborative working partnerships with a variety of service providers, Jordan’s Principle service coordinators/case managers, clients and families.
