Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

The Patient Engagement Consultant’s primary function is to work with researchers, patient and public partners and knowledge users (stakeholders) in order to promote and enhance patient and public engagement and patient-oriented research in Manitoba. Additionally, to provide facilitation services utilizing trauma-informed and cross-cultural approaches. Work closely with researchers, clinicians and students to provide knowledge, expertise, and supports around patient engagement strategy, participatory approaches, recruitment strategy, and advice on patient engagement materials. Provide knowledge around diversity, inclusions, and equity within their patient engagement strategy.

The Patient Engagement Consultant will embrace the principles of community-based research and patient centered care and must possess excellent organizational, operational, leadership and interpersonal skills.

Experience
  • 5 years of progressive experience in working within project coordination/management, research or health sciences fields required.
  • 3 years of experience managing a variety of diverse internal and external stakeholder and partner relationships.
  • 2 years of experience using public engagement tools, such as, virtual engagement and focus groups.
  • Experience working and negotiating with multiple stakeholder groups (e.g., health professionals, persons with lived experience, the public, health care managers, private industry).
  • Experience conducting literature searches, conducting interviews/focus groups & synthesizing qualitative data required.
  • Experience in, and commitment to, effective Patient and Public Engagement Strategies.
  • Experience with facilitation of meetings and workshops for diverse stakeholder groups required.
  • Experience working with refugee and newcomer populations is an asset.
  • Experience analyzing and synthesizing quantitative & qualitative data is an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Degree in health sciences, social-behavioural sciences or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Academic preparation in research methods.

SPECIAL TRAINING:

  • Specific Patient & Public Engagement courses/education or Knowledge Translation courses is an asset.
  • Courses or training in facilitation is an asset.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Active member in good standing with an associated regulatory body as appropriate.

  • Experience working and negotiating with multiple stakeholder groups (e.g., health professionals, persons with lived experience, the public, health care managers, private industry).
  • Ability to develop partnerships, promote networking and team building, and work effectively as part of a supportive team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Physically capable of providing service in a wide variety of community settings under varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Possession of a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s license required.
