Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Provincial Patient Flow, the Manager of Provincial Patient Flow will oversee and coordinate Patient Flow across the Health System as an integral member of the Manitoba Patient Flow Structure.

  • The position coordinates patient flow and resource utilization based on provincial clinical standards and guidelines, across services and sites as required and may be the SDO contact point for provincial patient flow management, which is coordinated provincially by Shared Health.
  • The incumbent is responsible for monitoring provincial system capacity and acting, in accordance with the Provincial Capacity Management Standard, to identify and mitigate risks associated with overcapacity situations.
  • Actively participating in fostering linkages across sectors and regions, this role contributes to supporting improved access to care.
  • This role may have utilization coordinators reporting and operationally supporting programs or geographical areas. the sites and geographical areas in the regions.

This position will work closely with regional utilization teams, medical and clinical leaders at sites, VECTRS, and the Director of Provincial Patient Flow to identify operational business needs and opportunities that support provincial integration to improve flow and access across all regions and Service Delivery Organizations (SDO’s).

Experience
  • 3 - 5 years of leadership including experience in a patient/resident/client care setting including:
    • 3 years' experience in the acute care system.
    • 2 years’ experience in patient flow or bed utilization.
    • 2 years’ experience managing processes and projects.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant health discipline from an accredited post-secondary education institution is required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrated mid-level leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Interruptions from key stakeholders are common; the incumbent can schedule dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration.
  • Travel to other health care facilities throughout the province requiring a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle.
