Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

In accordance with discipline-specific standards of practice, and under the supervision of the Coordinator of Patient Services, the Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for speech language therapy and programming for patients at SMHC. Speech Language Therapy includes
diagnosis and treatment of communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders, including meal management issues. Programming includes ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of speech language therapies in promoting the rehabilitation of persons with
psychiatric illness, physical disabilities, and/or acquired brain injury. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of staff /volunteers/students working with them. The incumbent provides regular instruction, support, coaching, and professional leadership to patient/staff/families supporting and/or implementing speech language therapies.

Experience
  • Previous experience with relevant population is preferred.
  • Experience with computer-based treatment programs an asset.
  • Experience in working in the field of Acquired Brain Injury an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited/recognized university is required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must be registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba (CASLPM).
  • Membership in other professional organizations is encouraged; for example, Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) or the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the applicable policy.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Completion of, and ongoing participation in relevant courses, workshops, etc. to address continuing education requirements of CASLPM and specialization required for service provision.
Physical Requirements
  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/staff/visitors.
