HOMESTAY ADMINISTRATOR
INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
FULL - TIME, PERMANENT
$68,675.75 - $82,130.38 per year
Winnipeg School Division's (WSD) International Education Program invites students from around the world to study in WSD schools for as few as 3 months or for multiple years. An important part of international students’ experience is the at-home connections they make with local, supportive and caring Canadian homestay families, where international students live-out the customs and culture of Canada. When students complete their studies at WSD International, it is often the homestay experiences they remember and where some of their fondest memories are made.
Under the Supervision and Direction of the Program Director for International Education, the Homestay Administrator is responsible for day-to-day operations of WSD International's homestay program and for developing and maintaining positive working relationships with WSD International's stakeholders including international students, homestay families, WSD schools and staff and the Winnipeg community. Specifically, the Homestay Administrator will:
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Develop and manage the marketing strategy and recruitment, inspection, and selection of WSD International Homestay families and residences
- Able to utilize communication and social media tools for marketing and recruitment.
- Coordinate the matching, placement, and relocation of international students in homestay residences
- Work with WSD clerical and accounting staff to maintain accurate homestay family records and timely reimbursement payments
- Mediate and resolve Homestay issues that arise
- Lead homestay family orientation and information sessions, online and in person
- Network and build coalitions within WSD International community stakeholders to generate leads for new homestays and school partnerships
- Collaborate with the International Student Advisor to facilitate international students’ access to resources in WSD schools and the community
- Support the planning and execution of welcome and appreciation events and celebrations and student field trips
- Educate and inform Homestay Families and WSD community stakeholders to understand international students’ unique contexts and cultural backgrounds
- Coordinate international student arrivals and departures
- On a rotating on-call basis, respond to emergency situations outside of regular work hours and on weekends
- Post-secondary studies in education, Social Work or Marketing as an area of study related to human services
- Intercultural competence and experience working with youth and families/communities in cross cultural contexts
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to solve practical problems as they arise in the daily lives of Homestay Families and International Students
- Strong computer skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Office, Outlook and database management
- Demonstrates ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgement and act resourcefully in varying situations
- Ability to make oral presentations, in person and virtually
- Experience working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Superior time-management
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours of work
- Experience as a homestay parent an asset
- Ability to speak an additional language an asset
- Must possess a valid Manitoba driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
