2021 Performance and New Targets: Forest Management

Public commitments drive our sustainability performance. Our sustainability strategy combines ambitious long-term objectives, annually revised targets and aspirational goals, carefully measured in the spirit of continuous improvement. In this blog series, 2021 Performance and New Targets, we’re recapping our 2021 achievements, sharing highlights of our progress, and affirming our targets for 2022 and beyond.

How we manage forests responsibly

As a leader in responsible forest management, Resolute is committed to ensuring the long-term health of the forests in our care. In keeping with this commitment, we adhere to rigorous third-party certification standards, carefully track the fiber we use to its sources, and report regularly and transparently on our performance.

How did we do in 2021?

  • Forest management
    • Certification: We maintained certification for 100% of the woodlands we manage to at least one internationally recognized forest management standard: Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) and/or Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®).
    • CDP ranking: Our 2021 forest-related disclosures earned an “A-” (leadership) score from CDP. According to CDP, the score reflects our environmental best practices and the actions we have taken to manage harvest risk and implement monitoring programs.
    • Continuous improvement: Our 2021 target was not to exceed five forest management incidents leading to regulatory infractions in Canada, excluding those of a strictly administrative nature. We recorded two incidents in our Lac-Saint-Jean (Quebec) woodlands. For 2022, we have again set the bar at no more than five incidents as we work toward our long-term aspirational goal of zero incident.
