Job Summary

The Team
The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a designated provincial mental health facility, providing on-site, community and outreach services to collaboratively support young people, families, and communities. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for youth through a closer to home focus.

Maples Satellite Services are delivered in the communities of Vernon and Prince George. Services are provided in a structured, short term, live-in setting, through a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Maples employees and contracted service provider employees. Families, caregivers, and other natural and cultural, supports are included in care planning for the young person.

The Role
The Nurse has an important role to play on the multi-disciplinary team and provides direct clinical services such as assessment, treatment, and safety plans. The Nurse supports medication administration and acts as a liaison with the pharmacy, hospital, and other health care settings. This position also develops nutrition plans, and on-site and community protocols, to ensure the safety of the young person. Nurses work in flexible ways including in the Satellite location, schools, and community settings.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), with a designation of either Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
    • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year experience providing clinical services to children, youth and families.
  • Minimum 1 year experience providing a wide range of community based mental health nursing services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Successful completion of Level 1 Occupational First Aid.
  • Experience working with adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

This position can be performed in following location: Vernon.
Flexible work options are available, this position may be able to work up to one or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
