SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who works directly with service users to ensure their education and rehabilitation in an institutional or external setting, in accordance with the intervention programs established in collaboration with the existing team of professionals, to foster the rehabilitation of individuals and/or their reintegration into society.

She/he applies education techniques involving activities of daily living in organizing, coordinating and conducting programmed activities aimed at helping these individuals learn and acquire appropriate attitudes and behaviors.

She/he observes and analyses the behavior of the service users, participates in assessing their needs and abilities and records their progress by writing up the appropriate reports. She/he is responsible for programming her/his own activities.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
In accordance with the policy and procedures of the CBHSSJB and within the framework of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Youth Protection Act, S-5. and CMC mandate, the incumbent:

  • Designs, animates and evaluates therapeutic activities, teachings and cultural activities for youth;
  • Ensures the learning and acquisition of Cree belief, values, attitudes and behaviours;
  • Contributes to and is directly responsible for appropriate hygiene and safety standards dictated in policies and procedures. This includes taking the necessary steps in the prevention of health and safety difficulties and alerting the appropriate people in the ongoing maintenance and repairs to the building;
  • Provides supervision of youth at all times;
  • Communicates and works in partnership with youth, families, Social Services, school, and significant other entities;
  • Ensures administrative orientation and clinical training for Youth Healing Social Aide;
  • Participates and attends team meetings;
  • Organizes and participates in group home outing, in and outside the community;
  • Carries out recording and report writing as needed and may include daily lodging, bi-weekly progress on youth, helping path plans, court reports and letters to parents;
  • Uses formal and informal counselling techniques;
  • Works together in collaboration and cooperation with co-workers, family and community to provide whatever is necessary to the well-being and development of the youth;
  • Observes confidentiality at all times and for all files.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:

  • Must have a college diploma (DEC) in technique of social work or other relevant college discipline of a recognized school by the competent ministry;
  • This job also includes the person who, hold a certificate of college studies in Social Work Techniques or Social Assistance Techniques;
  • Applicants with an attestation of college studies in Educators in Native Childcare Services or Special Needs Education aboriginal and Inuit children may be considered.

In the absence of applicants with the above-mentioned requirements, applicants with the below detailed requirements can be considered.

Education:

  • Must have a completed secondary 5 diploma from a recognized school by the competent ministry.
    Experience:

  • Must have 3 years of experience in the field of Youth Healing;

  • Must have successfully completed the Boscoville Training or its equivalent.
    Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Good knowledge of child care and group care;

  • Understanding of families and human relations;
  • Varied natural helper and/or Special Care Counselling / social service clinical skills;
  • Monitoring skills, sensitivity in coping with behaviour problems;
  • First hand knowledge of Cree culture and language, and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee;
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing and helping practices and paradigms;
  • Ability in office computer applications;
  • Good record in human services or as a helper;
  • Ability to work in collaboration with all colleagues, and in an interdisciplinary team setting;
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening communication, and teamwork skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written;
  • Ability to communicate theoretical and practical knowledge;
  • Autonomous, flexible, discrete and empathetic;
  • Emotional maturity, dynamism, self-sufficiency and initiative;
  • Sense of accountability, resourcefulness and vigilance;
  • Analytical and good judgment;
  • Excellent critical thinking, synthesis, organizational and decision-making skills;
  • Ability to read and write reports (mandatory skills exam).

LANGUAGE* Fluent in Cree and English; * Fluency in French is an asset.
OTHER* Valid driver's permit class 4B meeting the standards of the Société d'assurance automobile du Québec and the Ministère des Transports du Québec;* Excellent driving record: Driving Record Request (SAAQ clic online Services - Citizens);* Available to travel inside and outside of the Eeyou Istchee territory, as required;* Must be occasionally available to work outside the regular working hours (availability);* Schedule is Wednesday to Wednesday, 10 hours/day for 7 days and 7.5 hours for 1 day. Day shift is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Evening shift is from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.;* This position includes on-call periods.
