Position Overview:

Summary: The DSBN Maintenance Department is seeking qualified, organized, and resourceful trade candidates to complete demand and programmed work orders. Installation, troubleshooting, and repairs to lock systems, lock hardware, and door hardware is the primary function of this position.

The Locksmith position is assigned work orders through the DSBN Maintenance Department computerized maintenance management system - eBASE. Work orders are received through a board-provided laptop and investigated on-site by utilizing the resources and knowledge of the Maintenance Department lead hands, Supervisors, and on-site custodians.

Duties:

Perform demand, predictive, and preventative maintenance on lock systems, lock hardware, and door hardware to maintain building function.

Take responsibility for all work performed - ensuring compliance with all standard construction and maintenance practices - including building codes, regulations, and standards.

Ensure administrative tasks, policies, and procedures are properly performed and followed according to Board, Supervisor and/or Manager direction.

Abide by terms of Collective Agreement.

The primary duties described above shall not be considered the totality of responsibilities and tasks that may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Valid 259L - Locksmith - Certificate of Qualification, or;

Valid 403A - General Carpenter - Certificate of Qualification, or;

In lieu of formal qualifications, demonstrable experience of at least five years in the role of Locksmith in a commercial or institutional capacity - meeting all other skills and requirements.

Skills and Requirements:

Experience Installing all types of door hardware, locks, closers, panic hardware and mullions.

Experience in master keying bi-centric cylinders for Yale, Corbin, Schlage, Medeco, and Keymark.

Knowledge and capacity to operate key cutting machinery including the use of key coding systems.

Demonstrable experience with customer service and personable communication.

Attention to detail and the capacity to produce organized, clear paperwork is integral.

Compensation and Benefits : Salary Grid Level 1-S, $33.97 per hour.

This is a permanent, 40-hour position in the CUPE Union Group including group benefits, an OMERS pension plan, and incrementally progressing paid vacation. The Locksmith will work primarily from the St. Catharines Service Centre (9 Wright Street, St. Catharines); and as required and assigned throughout the DSBN school system utilizing a DSBN Maintenance vehicle.

Hours of Work : 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday)
