Those internal candidates, who are already approved Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) classified substitutes are to submit their change request for consideration via the Classified Sub Preferences Update eForm in their online Atrieve profile instead of applying to this new job posting.
EIPS requires individuals to work on a casual 'on-call' basis as substitute Educational Assistants. We are looking to increase substitute support for our rural school locations.
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
Educational Assistants (EAs) assist teachers with many instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EAs work as members of the school and student support team. EAs either work with a particular special needs student or a group of students within a class or in a special program. EAs may provide personal care and additional assistance for students depending on their particular needs.

Life of an Educational Assistant at EIPS
Duties will include:
working with students individually or in small groups
working with students with disabilities
lifts, transfers, and personal care of students may be required
Education/Experience:
Requirement: High School Diploma
Candidates having the following qualifications would be considered an asset:
training or experience working with students with disabilities
behaviour management training
courses related to working with students with special needs
excellent interpersonal skills
the ability to work with students under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher
the ability to provide personal care for students
Emergency First Aid and CPR
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education
