Job Description:

Managing Director, Insurance Strategy, Office of the CIO - SLC Management

WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU

Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Sun Life, the Managing Director, Insurance Strategy, Office of the CIO will work closely with the CIO, Sun Life to optimize the capital efficiency of the asset strategy on behalf of the Insurance company.

This role will be accountable for working closely with the CIO, Sun Life to maximize the opportunities for the insurance company with a thorough understanding of optimizing capital through creative capital solutions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Support the CIO, Sun Life to assess the strategy across asset classes and sectors on behalf of the Insurance company in alignment with its unique needs, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.
  • Be responsible for optimizing capital for General Account investments, which may include delivering value through creative capital solutions, and interfacing with internal and external partners. This includes:
    • Acting as a resource to determine how to structure, access and distribute capital both for SLF & SLC clients
    • Acting as a liaison with the SLC Management Client Solutions team and seek to optimize structures
  • Work with Investment Strategist to stay abreast of new strategies or products through interaction with dealers, consultants, products, etc and assessing potential for use in the GA.
  • Leverage the insurance strategy to play a broader role in boosting risk-adjusted returns in the short and/or long-term under the guidance of the CIO, Sun Life.
  • Evaluate the liabilities and seek opportunities to find synergies between the asset managers and the insurer, and provide expert guidance on managing Sun Life’s portfolio to drive the asset strategy.
  • Collaborate with staff across the enterprise, and including other members of the Office of the CIO on special projects, acquisitions and initiatives
  • Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously to facilitate achievement of SLF & SLC Management’s strategic and operational goals.
  • Oversee direct report(s)

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • MBA, CFA or advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of asset management and investment experience, strategic planning, project management and/or implementation
  • Insurance strategy experience strongly preferred
  • Extensive market knowledge and understanding of capital efficiency
  • Proven experience managing a diverse portfolio of initiatives with competing deadlines
  • Big picture thinker - ability to think strategically and creatively to help grow the business over the long-term and through changing environment; also able to navigate the detail to ensure flawless execution.
  • Strong planning ability to prioritize work in alignment with organization strategic goals.
  • Analytical and a data driven decision-making mindset
  • Operates with a high level of integrity. Knows what information is sensitive and maintains discretion and confidentiality.

SLC Management is a regulated business, and this means that there are certain financial reporting and trading preclearance requirements for all employees. Salary Range

142,000/142 000 - 250,000/250 000

The Base Pay range is for the primary location of the job. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
