Location: Area 5 Office (Norway House, Manitoba)

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, Indigenous Way of Life, the Elders Liaison will be responsible for supporting and implementing the Mamahtawisiwin Elders Framework. This is a grant-funded term position through the Manitoba Government Elders and Knowledge Keepers Grant.
The Kihteyak are a team of Elders- in-Residence supporting and guiding students and staff at Jack River School and Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Education Degree and Valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)
Experience working with Elders/Knowledge Keepers and respecting protocols
In-depth knowledge of Indigenous history, truth and reconciliation calls to action, Indigenous knowledge systems, models, and methodologies
Ongoing commitment to professional learning
Proven experience with program coordination, development, evaluation, and implementation
Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills
Strong facilitation skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with agencies, community, school, and divisional leadership
Fluency in the Ininimowin (Cree) language would be an asset
Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote community involvement in Jack River School and HBOIERC in the Kihteyak program
Support school staff in their ongoing connection of curriculum to the Provincial Mamahtawisiwin Framework by incorporating Indigenous pedagogy, languages, and culture into their teaching and practices through the Kihteyak program
Provide leadership and guidance to administrators, teachers, and other school personnel in the development and implementation of strategies and resources to support the Kihteyak program
Lead the development of a formal framework and plan for the Kihteyak program and role in the schools
Support the development and implementation of the Division’s Elders policy and the Provincial Elders and Knowledge Keepers in Schools Guidelines and Mamahtawisiwin Continuum of Elders Supports in Schools
Enhance the connection of parents, families and caregivers to activities, events, and opportunities in the school through the Kihteyak program
Review existing school structures, programming, partnerships, and policies related to the Kihteyak program
Evaluate the Kihteyak program’s presence and impact on students’ social, emotional, and academic well-being.
