Sybase Database Administer

Position Description:

This role is hybrid and requires you to be in our downtown Toronto office 2-3 times per week - subject to change at any time.

Position Summary: The Database Administrator will setup and support a Sybase database in support of our Product Engineering teams working on one of our Global Wealth Products.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Design, implement and maintain Sybase databases to ensure optimal performance and availability.
• Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies.
• Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Perform database maintenance, such as upgrades, patching and migrations.
• Manage security and access control to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of data.
• Develop and maintain database documentation, including database design, procedures and standards.
• Work with development team to ensure database design and schema changes align with application requirements.
• Develop, test, and ensure quality, production and the use of database latest versions;
• Follow up and control the performance and status of a specific IT element;
• Oversee routine tests and analyses of a specific IT element;
• Apply security correctives as needed;
• Use software tools and material to diagnose and solve issues/outages;
• Resolve problems in compliance with the established procedures;
• Use standard tools and procedures to carry out the established service deliveries and maintenance tasks

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• 7 years of experience as a database administrator
• 3 years of experience with Sybase on Linux
• Experience with Postgres would be as asset
• Strong problem solving and debugging skills

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems or a related field
