Position Summary: 

The incumbent will provide Mental Health clinical services to a primarily child and adolescent population at a more independent level, reflective of Graduate level training. These services will be delivered through a combination of direct service, consultation, community resource development and education.

The Autism Spectrum Disorder [ASD] Consultant, Masters Senior reports directly to the manager of Mental Health & Addiction Services or his/her designate.

The incumbent is responsible for planning, development, organization and delivery of ASD services within the framework of an interdisciplinary team.  Specific to Autism Spectrum Disorders, the ASD consultant provides oversight, coaching, mentoring and guidance to SHA staff, ASD support workers, educators and community partners.

Qualifications: 

  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology or Occupational Therapy or Psychology from a recognized university. 

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 year's work experience providing direct clinical services to children, as well as experience working with children suspected of Autism Spectrum Disorder with knowledge of normal and abnormal child development. 
  • Experience providing direct clinical services to client groups

  • Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings/weekend as required

  • Ability to collect, record and report comprehensive client information accurately in verbal, written and electronic formats in accordance with professional standards and guidelines
  • Ability to communicate with and maintain an effective working relationship with clients from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to conduct client assessments and engage in effective treatment planning
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, independent judgment and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively counsel and work with individuals, families, and groups

  • Demonstrated ability to perceive and analyze problems, develop alternatives, and effect innovative solutions

  • Demonstrated skill in mentoring, training and clinically supervising social workers and related disciplines
  • Demonstrated successful supervision of staff including experience with clinical skill development training
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, interpret and respond appropriately to issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of best practice or empirically based models of assessment and treatment of childhood and adolescent mental health disorders
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Power Point, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • Proven administrative, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Provide leadership and work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
