GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Policy Specialist is a provincial position responsible to develop and oversee a corporate and clinical policy program and governance framework. As the sole corporate and clinical Policy Specialist in the Agency, the Policy Specialist will lead the strategic development of policies that help the Agency meet its goals and objectives in a manner consistent with governing laws and acceptable risks. The corporate and clinical policy program will provide guidance on how decisions are made, what processes are followed, and how employees and physicians are required to behave.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University degree in business administration, social sciences, health administration, public policy, or other related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' work experience in policy development and administration.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Sound knowledge of the role of corporate and clinical policy, and required skills to analyze, develop, and implement a corporate policy framework and program.
- Working knowledge of health law and policy, privacy and access law, the regulatory regime applicable to health professionals, health related research, and culturally responsive care.
- Capable of communicating effectively, both in writing and verbally, including communication of complex ideas to a variety of audiences.
- Critical thinking skills to provide innovative and thoughtful advice. Must be able to identify and analyze issues at the strategic level, while paying attention to the details. This includes an understanding how a policy or issue might interact (intentionally or otherwise) with other policies or operations.
- Proficiency with typical office software.
- The ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, physicians, managers, and subject matter experts.
- Ability to:
- work at both strategic and detailed levels,
- identify opportunity for improvement and act as a change agent,
- work effectively with physicians and staff, and
- manage time and competing deadlines, work under pressure, and establish priorities.
