Support Analyst - Student Information Systems (SIS)

Medicine Hat Public School Division is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Support Analyst - Student Information Systems (SIS) to oversee the management, accuracy, and security of our Student Information System (SIS) and related data processes. Reporting directly to the Director of Technology, this key role ensures the smooth operation of the SIS, supports data-driven decision-making, and provides technical expertise to staff and stakeholders. The candidate will also work on supporting core business systems that support the Boards operations as required. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT and data management, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining data integrity and compliance.

This position requires an analytical approach to data management with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies; managing and resolving questions and problems from district, staff and parents as the first point of contact for the SIS; and fulfilling data requests and reports in accordance with specific timelines.

The successful candidate will be part of the district technology support team. They will be expected to collaborate with school staff and other team members. Both oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are essential competencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Data Management

  • Manage the accuracy, integrity, and security of student data
  • Develop and implement data validation protocols and procedures to ensure data quality.
  • Manage data imports, exports, and integrations with other educational platforms and systems.

Reporting and Analytics

  • Manage reporting projects to meet the needs of various stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, and external agencies.
  • Produce data analysis to support decision-making processes at the district or school level.

Team Leadership and Support

  • Conduct training sessions for staff and end-users on system functionality, updates, and best practices.
  • Manage system-related inquiries and escalations.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, educators, and IT staff to understand and address data needs.

Project Management

  • Assist with projects related to the implementation of new features or modules within the SIS.
  • Identify and document project risks and develop mitigation strategies to address potential issues that could impact project success.

Policy and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with district policies, data privacy standards and laws, and provincial regulations.
  • Work alongside the technology team to identify, establish and enforce data access controls, user roles, and permissions.
  • Regularly review documentation related to systems, procedures, and protocols to ensure accuracy and implement changes as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A diploma or degree in a technology related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 -5 years of experience in student information systems, ideally PowerSchool or similar large complex systems. which should include:
  • Considerable technical experience in configuration, administration, customizations, integration, data management and report building.
  • Providing support and development at a district as well as a school level through PowerSchool software (i.e., PowerSchool Gradebook, registration, information access, etc.)
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a business environment with a focus on process improvement and analysis of data.
  • Experience with/in supporting the following systems is considered an asset:
  • SRB AtrieveERP for education.
  • Edsby, SchoolEngage, School Messenger, FES, SharePoint.
  • Office 365 and Google for education.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Experience in identifying and analyzing business systems issues and determining root cause.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Desire to learn new technologies and work in varying business functional areas.
  • Detail oriented and analytical with strong problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as function effectively within a team
