SUMMARY:
The HR Manager is responsible for managing the Human Resources and Labour Relations functions for a designated group of stores within a geographical district. As a Business Partner, the HR Manager provides support, education, and advice to the operations team on a wide range of matters, including collective agreement interpretation and execution, policy and legislative issues.
Regular travel is involved in this position, and the position location is flexible across Ontario and includes the GTA, Windsor, Ottawa, Barrie and Kingston.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide advice, coaching and communication to store operations in all areas of human resources and labour relations i.e., interpretation and implementation of company policies, procedures, legislation, and multiple collective agreements
- Support operations with grievance and dispute resolution management, including acting as an advisor to legal counsel at arbitration hearings or other legal proceedings
- Conduct investigations and resolve complaints regarding breaches of internal policies and laws
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with assigned client group and business leaders to understand business needs while delivering timely labour and employment solutions
- Analyze store-specific people needs; recommend, develop, and implement solutions
- Support the District Manager with absence management, talent acquisition, performance management, succession planning, compensation, onboarding and offboarding
- Participate in the development and delivery of training programs
- Support Health & Safety and operations with accommodation requirements, modified duties and return to work meetings
- Ensure effective application of HR transactions
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post Secondary education
- 3 - 5 years of experience as an HRBP or HR generalist
- CHRL/CHRP designation is an asset
- Experience in a unionized environment, preferably retail
- Experience providing advice on labour and employment matters
- Experience with grievance management and resolution, as well as conducting investigations
- In-depth knowledge of ESA, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, OSHA and collective agreement administration; working knowledge of Health & Safety Act
- Excellent influencing skills and ability to demonstrate sound judgement
- Highly developed analytical, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external partners while building strong relationships across different organizational levels
- Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced work environment while managing competing priorities for a variety of stakeholders
- Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex situations while maintaining a commitment to handling confidential information with discretion and sensitivity
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Ability to travel to stores within a geographical district in Ontario with occasional overnight stays
