Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Supervisor, Waste Disposal Operations, the Landfill Site Attendant is responsible for completing and recording scale transactions for all vehicles entering and exiting the landfill and public waste drop- off sites.

The Landfill Site Attendant opens and closes the scalehouse, initiates and shuts down the weigh scale and data processing system, inspects all loads of material entering the site, provides general customer service (includes answering customers queries) records information regarding the loads of material entering and leaving the site, processes financial transactions and performs cash handling activities. The role is also required to maintain proper housekeeping of the scalehouse and vicinity around it, including but not limited to litter pick up and setting out waste for disposal.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent (e.g. OSSD or GED).

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience (full-time equivalent) in a frontline customer service setting preferably in retail and/or hospitality industry, including cash handling and use of Point of Sale System (POS).
  • General knowledge of waste management practices.
  • Understanding of cash deposit process, including but not limited to use of cash deposit bags and completing cash deposit slips.

SKILLS

  • Professional customer service skills and a positive attitude are required.
  • Must demonstrate teamwork, open communication, excellence in service, integrity and accountability.
  • Intermediate knowledge of using computer applications (Microsoft Office) for word processing, email, database with proven ability to perform spreadsheet operations.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to identify, recognize and work with different weight units and measurements.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic and unit conversion calculations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to answer inquiries from public/customers and handle customer complaints in a manner consistent with accepted best practices.
  • Filling out cash deposits slips with neat and legible handwriting.
  • Data entry and keyboarding capabilities of 8,000 key strokes per hour and typing speed of 40 word per minute.
  • Ability to operate computer and other electronic devices such as scanners, printers, digital scale displays, alarm systems and uninterruptible power supply units.
  • Proven organizational skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize workload effectively.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Must provide own transportation and be able to travel throughout the Niagara region to various Waste Operation locations in a timely manner.
