About Us:
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.
Fleet, Supply and Weapons Services Bureau (FSWSB), through a commitment to customer service, ensures that the OPP is equipped to meet its public safety mandate in an increasingly complex and challenging policing environment. The Bureau is comprised of highly skilled personnel from diverse backgrounds that work cooperatively with customers and stakeholders to research, develop and deliver equipment to position the OPP as a leader in modern policing. The Bureau Commander reports directly to the Provincial Commander of Corporate Services and is made up of the following sections:

What can I expect to do in this role?To assist in the recovery and restoration of used police equipment and accessories removed from trade-in vehicles, prepare new vehicles and to perform general garage duties by performing various semi-skilled mechanical tasks.
How do I qualify?Mandatory• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Knowledge of basic automotive theories to perform basic equipment maintenance, repair and refurbishing, to determine the nature and extent of repairs and maintenance and to assist skilled tradespersons with upkeep and repair duties. Job requires basic knowledge and understanding of decal application.
• Knowledge of technical manuals and OPP maintenance policies to perform work that adheres to appropriate established maintenance schedules and repair authorization procedures.
• Knowledge of variety of hand tools to perform maintenance tasks.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act to follow safe work practices.
• Ability to coordinate the receipt of all used police equipment and accessories stripped from trade in vehicles.
• Oral communication skills to alert and provide information to skilled tradespersons of maintenance problems and to gather / discuss information from other maintenance staff regarding technical problems.
• Ability to diagnose and test electrical equipment to determine the extent of repair/refurbishing.
• Job requires performing repair to vehicle wiring systems and refurbishing police electrical equipment and alerting supervisor of involved problems for assessment.
