Glazier/Metal Mechanic - Term

Facilities Maintenance Department

Position Status: Regular, 100%

Work Year: Works 12 months per year

Expected End Date: September 30, 2025

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, Eight (8) consecutive hours between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm, excluding an unpaid meal period of up to one hour; 40 hours per week

Salary range: $35.31 to $36.54 per hour ($73,439 to $75,998 per year)

Under the direction of the Team Lead or designate, the Glazier/Metal Mechanic performs a variety of duties related to repairing, replacing and maintaining various types of windows, sashes, frames, screens, etc.; ensuring work is performed in a safe, effective and economical manner, complying with Board and legislative standards and codes; ensuring Board vehicles, equipment and tools are properly maintained; performing other related duties to ensure that properties, facilities, and equipment are properly maintained.

Qualifications

Knowledge of current relevant codes and legislation (Acts and Regulations), new materials, equipment, products, methods and procedures.

Interpersonal, communication, and listening skills required to liaise with co-workers, site supervisors, principals, suppliers, and other Board personnel to schedule repairs, identify location of the problem and make choices such as type of glass/colour/tint, and to order and purchase material.

Initiative and judgment are required to make decisions about how to fix problems, determine type of glass to be installed, picking up needed supplies, and to schedule work.

Organization skills to prioritize work orders and reschedule activities due to emergency calls.

Ability to use a variety of tools such as metal brake, skill/table/radial arm saws, drill press, and glass polishers; electric hand tools such as power drills and jigsaw; hand tools such as glass cutter, circle cutter, knives and pliers.

Ability to report code violations, complete forms such as daily logs and work order sheets, calculate formulae for measuring and calculating correct sizing of frames and windows and material costing.

Ability to use electronic mail system and computer maintenance management system and to work with minimum supervision.

This knowledge would normally be obtained through completion of a secondary school diploma, and a valid Ontario Trade Certificate, and 5 years experience in the Glazier and Metal Mechanics trade, which includes 3 years in industrial or commercial maintenance. Valid Ontario Class G driver's license required, or equivalent. The incumbent is required to keep all licenses and certifications current and to take approved training courses as required.

As a condition of employment, if you are the successful incumbent for this position, you will be required to submit a Police Record Check completed within the last 6 months.
