Guidance Services Assistant

South Carleton HS

Position Status: 50% Term Assignment to December 31, 2024

Work Year: Works 10.5 months a year

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, 11:30 am - 3:00 pm, 17.5 hours per week

Salary range: ESP Level 5, $26.22 per hour to $32.67 per hour

Under the direction of the Principal or designate, the Guidance Services Assistant works in conjunction with the school guidance counselor(s) and office assistant in order to provide effective guidance/career services; providing administrative, technical and clerical support; organizing and maintaining a guidance/career information centre; maintaining scholarship and post-secondary information; maintaining OSR's, performing data entry, ie. marks, community service hours; prepare transcripts; assisting students with application forms, and performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Completion of Secondary School Diploma, and 1-2 years of related experience, preferably in a secondary school setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working knowledge of computer systems (including student information systems) and a variety of software.

Ability to conduct research on a variety of career/guidance topics

Strong computer skills including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and databases; Internet use and online searches.

Organizational skills for organizing career days, test schedules, etc.; Interpersonal and communication skills in order to assist students and staff; .

Tact, diplomacy and discretion is required when dealing with the public, staff and students.

Ability to conduct research upon request; Writing skills to report on research, prepare/write newsletters, etc.

First consideration is given to Regular full-time and part-time employees within ESP bargaining unit. You must apply to the posting marked as 'Internal'

Term and casual employees within ESP bargaining unit are given 2nd consideration. You must apply to the posting marked as 'External'.

External applicants (including Board employees that do not belong to this bargaining unit) will be considered only if applications from 1 & 2 have been exhausted.
