What is the opportunity?

In this newly created role, the Senior Manager, Mobility Tax will be a valued member of the Global Mobility Centre of Expertise (GM-COE) Senior Management Team. This role holds responsibility for oversight of global mobility tax management for employees impacted under various programs (short-term business travel, temporary assignments, transfers, ad hoc arrangements). You will also work closely with equity compensation, global payrolls, finance, and RBCs global mobility tax services vendor to deliver advice, reporting direction and other needs as required to meet compliance obligations while also maintaining an optimal employee experience. Your thought leadership in bringing better efficiencies and data to our stakeholders as well and improving our programs in partnership with the GM COE team will also be part of this role.

What will you do?

  • Oversee all aspects of employer mobility income tax processes and employer compliance obligations for in-scope mobility employees (Short-Term Business Traveler Program, Temporary Assignments and Transferees). This includes, but is not limited to, tax equalization processes and guidelines, income tax remittances, payroll reporting direction, tax year end reporting slips, year-end equity compensation direction, tax advances and liability collection, etc.
  • Together with mobility tax services vendor, compensation delivery and global payrolls, oversee annual year-end reporting, remittances, tax slips, and tax services vendor cost management and service delivery.
  • Lead and together with team increase organizational knowledge of our programs through materials, Road Shows, Q&As and other tools.
  • Work with corporate tax and other enterprise organizations to align employee mobility tax positions and management of these processes are current and align with corporate structure, risks, regulatory requirements, etc.
  • Simply complex information for stakeholders as needed.
  • Main point of contact for first level employee income tax filing questions, position decisions, vendor escalations.
  • Coach, mentor and motivate highly skilled team to develop, grow and be empowered to collectively improve employee experience while also optimizing processes leveraging current and new technologies to streamline standard processes and increase our ability to provider higher touch support in areas it is needed.
  • Review and make recommendations to programs that manage risk to the organization while also decreasing outgoing tax liability and improving the employee experience.
  • Balance compliance and risk with employee experience for all levels (up to an including executives).
  • Utilize your understanding of cross-border, cross-State, and international mobility income tax (employer and employee) knowledge to provide leadership to the team and direct tax services vendor as needed. Keep abreast of future changes that impact our programs, and proactively make policy recommendations or updates.
  • Lead team to improve accuracy implement accurate tax reporting and tax liability collection processes.
  • Work with mobility services provider to support operations of short-term business travel program as it relates to tax (personal, corporate tax concepts), immigration compliance, reporting and process management.
  • Responsible for GM G/L accounts, leading to ensure timely reconciliations are managed globally and on time.
  • Ensure receivable and liability recovery and reporting is actively managed to decrease escalations, disputes and process delays while optimizing the employee and stakeholder experiences.
  • Responsible reporting mobility tax data and activity to Director to inform management dashboards.
  • Partner with global payrolls to ensure timely and accurate communication of direction, allocation process etc.
  • Work with Tax Services vendor to ensure SLAs are met, error remediation and continuous partnership and improvements align with needs
  • Work with Director, corporate tax and tax services vendor to understand and make recommendations on tax positioning annually.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 5-10+ years of relevant work experience in global corporate environment, preferably in the functions of Global Mobility, Payroll, Finance, and/or Tax. Experience working in a regulated and / or large global enterprise is an asset.
  • Technical knowledge in Global Mobility income tax concepts is a requirement (US + Canada + Intl preferred).
  • Strong financial acumen and attention to detail coupled with ability to communicate complexities to various levels of the organization is required.
  • Influencing skills, action-oriented and strong leader of teams.
  • Passion for and ability to balance optimal employee experience with risk and compliance.
  • Strong organization skills, self-starter with the ability to prioritize work; outstanding verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver under pressure through both independent and/or collaborative work effort.
  • Self-learner, open to change and making improvements to programs that will deliver operational excellence.
  • Strong technical capability (MS Excel, vendor web-based admin tools, SAP, Workday).
