Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations and Transportation, the Grounds Manager is responsible for managing and supervising all grounds maintenance and repair activities. This includes overseeing horticultural areas, trees, fencing, sports fields, playgrounds, parking lots, drainage systems, irrigation systems, and walkways. The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective leadership, strategic planning, and operational management within a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and control Grounds Maintenance operations to ensure efficiency and safety.

Ensure compliance with applicable school district regulations and procedures.

Recommend appropriate staffing levels for Grounds Maintenance.

Supervisor and provide training to staff.

Collaborate with the Associate Director and HR/LR on hiring, promotions, and employee management

Prepare and present operational reports as required.

Manage the annual operating budgets for Grounds Maintenance and assist in grant budget development.

Develop and implement effective maintenance programs and safety protocols.

Foster positive relationships with schools, community members, and external Partners.

Coordinate with the City of Surrey Parks Department for operational issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

A diploma in horticulture, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of two years of field experience, preferably in a busy, multi-site organization.

Proven experience in grounds maintenance management or a related role.

Strong knowledge of horticulture, landscaping, sport fields and grounds maintenance practices.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and build trust with a variety of key partners.

Proficiency using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.

Inspires and empowers teams through effective motivational strategies, fostering a culture of high engagement and achievement.

Commitment to inclusion and belonging and building a caring and respectful workplace.

Effective critical thinking, decision making, and problem resolution skills.

Experience in the public sector is an asset

Ability to work with others in a consultative and collaborative manner.

Ability to work under pressure in a high volume work environment and manage competing priorities and demands.

Ability to manage budgets and analyze financial data.

Class 5 drivers license

The salary range for this position is $101,086 to $126,357 per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
