The Surrey School District is seeking to fill vacancies in our HVAC/mechanical team! Whether you’re a seasoned Red Seal Technician seeking work life balance or if you’re a new graduate with experience in a variety of hydronic systems - we invite you to apply!

Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Maintenance within the Facilities Division, the successful applicant is responsible for a variety of service projects including renovations, repairs, installations, and scheduled maintenance of building heating and cooling hydronic systems in over 140 school district sites and offices. The successful applicant must be a team-player ready to be part of a cohesive, effective team of professionals in this busy department of A & B Gasfitters, Plumbers, HVACR Mechanics, who hold great pride in their work. The department requires applicants to be prepared to work effectively in a small team as well as independently to complete top quality work in various District facilities. Experience and training in institutional facilities is a bonus!

Surrey School District prides itself on providing our facilities staff with excellent work-life balance. This Pipe Fitter / Gas Fitter Technician position works 7:00 to 3:00, Monday to Friday, however shift times may vary with some afternoon work. The successful applicant will have access to top-quality tools and equipment, a well-maintained fleet of vehicles and the beautiful District Facilities Centre located in the heart of Surrey.

Applicants must have:

Red Seal in an applicable trade - ideally Pipe Fitter, Gas Fitter, or other trade supplemental with experience in a variety of wet heating and cooling applications relevant to HVAC / Mechanical hydronic systems.

Must hold a Class "B" Gas Ticket (bonus if you hold a Class "A" ticket or electrical endorsement!)

Service repairs and Diagnostics are an asset.

Knowledge of refitting and control valves are an asset.

Position consists of trade related physical demands pertaining to climbing, crawling, lifting, and carrying.

Basic computer skills would be an asset.

Knowledge of Direct Digital (DDC) would be an asset.

Minimum of 4 years experience preferred. Equivalent education and/or relevant experience in the HVAC industry will be considered.

A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license.

This is a unionized position that offers an hourly wage rate of $40.65 plus benefits package: municipal pension, health, vacation & sick benefits. Effective date per collective agreement.
