THE OPPORTUNITY: EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR - SEAMLESS CHILDCARE SUPPORT

(SCHOOL & STUDENT SUPPORT A)

The Seamless Day Model allows primary school students to attend childcare in the Kindergarten classroom with a team of Early Childhood Educators and classroom teacher. This model is designed to enhance children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development and benefits from the professional expertise of primary teachers and early childhood educators working together.

As per the 2024-25 ECE-WE Funding Guidelines from the Government of British Columbia, Unionized ECEs employed by public sector employers, as defined in the Public Sector Employers Act can retain access to the $4 per hour wage top-up if eligible. The top-up only applies to hours worked at participating licensed childcare facilities.

This position will be eligible for the top-up from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and submit weekly timesheets to be compensated for this top-up.

In this position, you will:

Support the transition of information between children, families and classroom colleagues

Plan, coordinate and lead a quality licensed school-age group childcare program for early primary students

Collaborate with the Kindergarten teacher and other school staff to create a seamless transition for students moving between the childcare program and school day

Provide support to student with respect to their social emotional learning and school and community connectedness/belonging

Attend meetings as requested

Maintain statistics for child care reports

Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard

Understand and act in accordance with relevant policies and procedures from the school, District, Ministry of Education, Child Care Licensing Regulations and WorkSafe BC

Assist in developing instructional learning resources and support students with learning and/or independent activities developed by teacher/team

Under the direction of the teacher/team, assist in the development and implementation of student IEP goals and objectives

Share relevant information about the performance and behaviour of individual learners to support the IEP goals, transition and program design

Participate in a wide variety of field trips, sports, recreational and cultural activities with assigned class

Supervise students, as required, and deal with behaviour concerns with positive behaviour management as they occur

Follow guidelines established by the program/District to protect the safety and well-being of the students and staff in the classroom

Perform other duties within the job band as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of grade 12

Must have a valid B.C. Early Childhood Educator License to Practice (please include a scanned copy in your application)

Minimum of three (3) years working as an active Early Childhood Practitioner.

Experience in before and after school programs preferred.

Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, community resources and early learning.

Experience in creating, planning and implementing early learning programs. Excellent interpersonal communication, collaboration and organizational and planning skills are a necessity.

The ability to work independently and as a team and relate well with kindergarten students and other stakeholders, such as families, caregivers, social workers, teachers is key. Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, community resources and early learning.

Emergency First Aid - Community Care training (must possess or be willing to complete prior to employment).

Working Knowledge of Microsoft required.

COMPENSATION

Working hours are 7am to 1pm (paid as 5.5 hours/day), Monday to Friday at Strathcona Elementary School. Base salary for this position is $32.62/hour (5.5 hours/day) plus $4/hour wage top-up for the hours of 7am - 9am. Working months are September to June each year. This position has a comprehensive benefits package, including Municipal Pension Plan, Vancouver Employee Savings Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long Term Disability, Vacation, & Gratuity Days.
