ELEMENTARY TEACHER- Learning Support Services

TEMPORARY- Full Time or Part Time - TO JUNE 30, 2025

The Burnaby School District is on the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Nations of Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish.

The Burnaby School District is the fourth largest in BC. The District operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs. The District supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners through our established Burnaby Community & Continuing Education program. Burnaby School District invites applications from qualified LSS Elementary Teachers for Temporary Part time/Full Time positions.

Required Teacher Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or academic equivalent in an appropriate field of study;

Relevant methodology courses (primary and/or intermediate)

Valid BC Teaching Certificate

Knowledge of a broad range of effective instructional strategies in order to meet the diverse needs of all students;

Knowledge of consultative and collaborative strategies; and

Recent, successful, substantive teaching or practicum experience in the relevant grade level

Required LSS Qualifications:

a Bachelor of Education degree or academic equivalent

two years of successful teaching experience in the regular classroom

courses designed to meet the diverse needs of exceptional learners equal to a minimum of 30 credits in the following areas: students with special needs, assessment/testing theory and practice, strategies for adapting and modification of curriculum, learning disabilities, giftedness, assistive technology or augmentative communication, ASD,

Functional Behavioural Assessment and Positive Behaviour Support, and differentiated instruction

demonstrated fluency and facility (both oral and written) in English and French when working in the French Immersion program

Temporary contract and continuing contract teachers participate in an annual Professional Growth Program (unique to Burnaby) that allows teachers to be self-determining and reflective about their growth and learning as teaching professionals. This program is built on the belief that teachers will strive to be the best educator they can be.

We provide new teachers the opportunity to participate in our mentorship program. In this program, new teachers are paired with teacher mentors. During the school year, the program provides the following:

Six professional learning sessions throughout the year

A support network for mentees and mentors to connect and collaborate

Access to one day of release for mentors and mentees to engage collaborative learning such as co-planning, co-teaching, and observing each other’s practice

Mentor training session(s)

Ongoing support sessions scheduled at the convenience of mentors and mentees

Career advancement opportunities such as program consultants, staff development teachers, resource teachers, head teacher (elementary) and department head (secondary).

Salary for this position will be based on the B.C. Teacher’s Collective Agreement and would range between $59,711 to $109,942 depending on certification and years of experience.
